1. Capture with a clear overlap
Take the first screenshot, scroll down, and keep a visible block of repeated content at the top of the next screenshot. A paragraph, message bubble or image edge is more useful than a blank area. Keeping the same zoom level and screen orientation makes matching easier.
2. Add the images in sequence
Open TallMerge and select all screenshots. Files are initially ordered by selection and filename. Use the up and down controls if your photo picker returns them in the wrong order.
3. Detect repeated rows
Leave Smart overlap trim enabled and choose Detect overlaps. TallMerge compares reduced samples from the bottom of one screenshot and the top of the next. It only applies a crop when the match is strong enough; uncertain seams are left untouched.
4. Inspect and correct each seam
Look at the preview. If a title bar, date, message or line appears twice, increase the Top crop on the later image or Bottom crop on the earlier image. If content is missing, reduce the crop. Automatic detection is a convenience, not a substitute for checking the result.
5. Choose the export
PNG preserves sharp text and interface details but can produce a larger file. JPEG is smaller for photo-heavy captures, while WebP often balances quality and size. A 1080 or 1440 pixel maximum width can help when a phone struggles with a very tall canvas.
Practical capture tips
- Disable animated overlays when possible.
- Wait for images and fonts to finish loading before every capture.
- Avoid changing text size, zoom or orientation between shots.
- Capture one extra screenshot rather than leaving a gap.
- Review visible names, addresses and notifications before sharing.
